Georgia Power will be conducting whitewater releases for Tallulah Gorge during the first three weekends in November. Since the April releases were canceled, these six weekend days will be the only release dates for 2011. Located at the scenic Tallulah Gorge State Park, paddlers will be venturing down class IV-V rapids.
The GCA is sponsoring the November 19-20 weekend releases, so volunteers are needed to assist in several different capacities.
The volunteer shifts on both Saturday & Sunday are from 8am-12pm, 11pm-3pm, and 3-4:30pm (footbridge only). The afternoon shifts are especially lacking volunteers.
There are three volunteer stations:
Collecting boater registration waivers
Guarding the south stairs from the public at the swinging footbridge
Assisting at the boater launch platform
If you have a preference for a particular station, I will try to accommodate. All volunteers will be able to venture to the boater launch platform, if they so choose, to watch paddlers navigate the first rapid.
If you are able to help out, please contact me at either odiek8@juno.com or 678-234-4008.
Thanks,
Kate Wilkerson
