We have run it at least 50 times and have led paddling trips here for the Appalachian Mountain Club in the past. Other
rivers in the area include the Middle Yough (Class II), the Upper Yough (Class IV), the Cassleman (Class II/III) and Stoney Creek (Class III/IV) near Johnstown, PA.
If you are interested in joining us, Google “Ohiopyle State Park” and go to their website which is extensive. There you will find lots of information on the facilities, showers etc. and things to do in the area including hiking, biking, rock climbing, etc. There is also the Frank Lloyd Wright house at Falling Water and several Revolutionary War battle fields to see. Campsites are $21.00 per night with a discount for Senior Citizens. They are slightly higher on the weekends. We usually eat out when we camp here. There is a breakfast place just a block from the put-in. A half dozen restaurants for dinner are a short drive away. We plan to camp in the Park near the end of Hickory Road (see their map). We will be on site 158. Sites on Hickory 159 and above allow pets for a small upcharge. The only additional expense is a daily shuttle token to get yourself and your canoe /kayak at from the takeout up a 2 mile hill to the parking lot. The cost is $4.00 per person. There is no boat launch fee on weekdays. It is $3.00 on weekend days should you stay on.
Make your own reservations and arrangements for driving. You can cook in or eat out. with us. Let us hear from you if you want to join in. Contact us by e-mail with any questions. We hope to have a good group.
