Low head dams are perfect drowning machines. They look harmless. There can be no apparent risk. They do not have to much of a drop to catch a victim. Even potential rescuers are at risk of being captured by these monsters of the river.

The perfect even line causes a rolling horizontal tornado effect, or hydraulic, that pulls floating objects upstream and then pushes them underwater. When conditions are right, there is no escape.
