We did it, just barely! In the finals of the Canoe Club Challenge Saturday the GCA beat out the hard charging AWC to win the club championship in this wildwater and slalom competition which was spread over 3 Saturdays in June, July and August.  Details of the final results have not yet been posted on the NOC site, but we won by final score of 400 to 419, less than the 24 points that one racer could earn by competing yesterday in the wildwater race (4 pts.) and by making the 10 allowed slalom runs (20 pts.).
GCA President Lamar Phillips proudly picked up the Jackson kayak for the club to raffle and will no doubt announce further details soon.  Each GCA racer will be assigned one raffle ticket for each point he earned and free tickets will also be given to our volunteers, who showed up in force Saturday.  Raffle tickets will also be available for purchase.

Congratulations to the AWC racers, who made a gallant charge on the final day of competition when, due to the wildwater race and double points awarded in the slalom, they were able to quickly close in on the sizable lead GCA had after the first two rounds.  AWC entered 4 more boats in the wildwater race than the GCA did and thereby was awarded the Green Boat for their club to raffle.

We all had a great time.  Many thanks to all our volunteers and racers.  We needed every one of you!  I and GCA Racemaster John Pinyerd will report further when more race details are issued by the NRC/NOC, who did all the timing and scoring for the finals.
