Have you ever thought about what happens on the river after you break or lose your paddle? Are you out running rivers with a pair of hand paddles in your boat for back up but you’ve never used them?  Have you ever wondered what the “flipper” side of paddling is all about?  Well, this is your chance to get answers – come join us for a weekend of knuckle-dragging on the Tuckaseegee River.

Join Lisa Haskell, Keith Raker and Lara Christy for a hand paddling clinic on the Tuckaseegee River.  We will meet at Tsali Recreation Area on Saturday morning August 1, 2020.  We will spend a bit of time at the lake working on wet exits and rolling with hand paddles.  We will then paddle the Town Tuck to get a feel for using the hand paddles on moving water.  On Sunday, August 2, 2020, we will paddle the Tuck Gorge with hand paddles and get a feel for how they work on slightly bigger water.  You will have an opportunity to find out what is different about using hand paddles and what is the same.  You will need to have your own boat and gear for the weekend.  We do have a few extra pairs of hand paddles available if you don’t have your own, but you need to let us know if you want to use a pair.  We don’t want to end up without enough sets of paddles.  As always, dress for the water and weather and bring snacks, lunch and something to drink.

I will be staying at Smoky Mountain Meadows campground on Friday and Saturday nights.  If you are looking to camp for the weekend you can contact them for reservations.  There are also non-camping options in Bryson City if you prefer.

We will limit the number of people to 10 including the instructors. Masks will be worn for land based activities and during shuttle. We wil maintain social distance when possible. Please be sure to have a dry bag with you to keep your mask dry while we are paddling.
