About this event:
PADDLE FOR THE HEMLOCKS on the Cartecay River. Meet at Blackberry at 10:00 on March 7th. We will unload boats and gear, then drivers will go to DNR. Woody will shuttle us back to Blackberry for the start of the trip. Passes will be provided so you don’t have to have a fishing license. We will be in and out of our boats treating hemlocks so come prepared to get your feet wet, climb up and down river banks, and for the weather in general.
All of the Hemlocks in Georgia have been infected by the Hemlock Woolly Adelgid. Unless we treat the trees, they will all die and fall in the river. They must be treated one tree at a time, so we need a big turnout. See the Eddie Line for more details.
We have 20 trained treatment leaders. Not all of them are comfortable leading a paddling trip so we need ten paddlers who are willing to lead a group on the Cartecay. We also need three strong paddlers with swift water rescue skills to run sweep. We have several paddlers who may be at their limit on the Cartecay, and the weather may be problematical. Please send me an email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or give me a call (770.551.2747) if you are willing to guide paddlers and if you’re a skilled sweep.
