About this event:
We plan to run the Oconaluftee River on Saturday, March 21, 2020, and the Raven Fork on Sunday, March 22, 2020. Both are class II-III clear mountain streams, though Raven Fork is somewhat more demanding. They depend on natural flow, and thus the conditions and difficulty may vary due to water level. We shall meet both mornings at the Great Smoky Mountain National Park Visitors Center, the Pioneer Village, parking lot; on Saturday at 11 a.m.; and on Sunday at 10:15 a.m. There are bathrooms which can be used for changing there. The trips are open to current GCA members and their guests, who may paddle either or both days. We usually run from Smokemont to Cherokee on the Oconaluftee and from the Straight Fork confluence to Cherokee on Raven Fork. Depending on water levels and weather additional or alternate trips may be planned with mutual agreement. All participants are urged to preregister with the Trip Coordinator, Roger Nott, 678-316-4935 (text and call); firstname.lastname@example.org.
