We had a great trip with 6 boaters and Debbie Reed, who helped with the shuttle, took photos at the put-in and Edge of the World, and hiked in the Dawson County Forest with her dogs. We waited for a few no-shows who missed a great trip.

As of Friday afternoon we have 4 persons signed up in a mix of kayaks and OC-1’s. the weather forecast is encouraging. There may be some rain in the morning but it should be over before we put on about 11 am. Then there is only a 15% chance of rain till 5 pm. The temperatures in that time are expected to range from 48 to 62 degrees, and there will be mostly a side and tailwind of about 7 mph when we get to the Etowah River (See: https://weather.com/weather/hourbyhour/l/Dawsonville+GA+30534:4:US )
The gauge is currently at 1.09 (.79 old gauge) and likely to be a little higher with some overnight rain predicted.
Here the encouraging current hourly forecast for Dawsonville: https://weather.com/en-TO/weather/hourbyhour/l/30534:4:US. Rain shouldn’t be a major probems, and we even get a tailwind.
See my comment re bringing cash for the take-out parking fee. We will meet at the take-out at the Kelly Bridge over the Etowah, at the landing on the river right upstream corner, 5360–5366 Kelly Bridge Rd., Dawsonville, GA 30534 at 10 a.m. The new USGS gauge is currently at 1.13 but may rise due to predicted rain. We currently have 7 definitely coming with 3 maybes. We will definitely have a trip or perhaps more than one if the water is too high for some in the Lower. Don’t hesitate to call or text me any time 8 a.m. to midnight: 678-316-4935 (cell), 770-536-6923 home.
Roger, Jim Albert is coming as well, he hasn’t signed up yet.
Great. Dale Fulmer, Dennis Simpkins and Chris Davis also plan to come. We will meet at the take-out at the Kelly Bridge over the Etowah, at the landing on the river right upstream corner, 5360–5366 Kelly Bridge Rd., Dawsonville, GA 30534 at 10 a.m. The new USGS gauge is currently at 1.13. There is a fee, I think $5 or $3 per person to park there, so bring some cash.
I am interested in paddling the Lower Amicalola trip. I paddle an open boat, I am confident paddling the Nantahala and section III of the Chatooga. I have paddled the Ocoee River but it’s been a few years and I would be considered a beginner on this river. Would you consider it appropriate for me to paddle on this trip.
