About this event:
Have you ever thought about taking a SWR course and simply didn’t feel you were ready for the material? Or maybe you have taken a SWR course and just don’t feel like you really got it all. Well here is a chance to spend the day with some SWR Instructors working on those skills. We will take a segment of skills and spend the day on just that skill set. We plan to keep it simple and have lots of fun! We will be offering these clinics several times during the year and each clinic will cover a new topic. Some of the topics that may be covered in the clinic you attend will range from knots, how to be successful when using your throw bag, how to correctly catch a rope when you are the swimmer, how to perform a hand of God rescue, using river signals and a whistle, performing live bait rescues, foot entrapment scenarios, proper gear & clothing for the day, working with ropes, as well as many other things you should consider before you get on the river. These clinics are open to all current GCA members. The only cost that may be involved in these clinics is the very small fee for ACA insurance. We hope to see everyone taking advantage of this GCA membership benefit.
Looking forward to seeing everyone there! We meet at Hiawassee Outfitters at 10:30. Yes we are paddling the river so bring all of your gear. The water is cooler than many so if you are bothered by that bring layers. It is not Nanty cold! Just fairly cool. 🙂 You will, if you choose, spend some time swimming. We love swimmers! Bring questions please! The more the better.
Also, how should we dress? I heard it was cold.
Stupid question, but are we running the river as well? Do we bring boats? 🙂 Also, is there an age limit? I was going to see if my 12-year-old son would be interested in going with us. He just started rolling last night, so this could be good information, since he’ll be stepping up his game!
Bring ALL normal paddling gear. Yes we paddle the river. We teach SWR in the river. Your son is fine to attend.
Keep in mind the clinic is for Saturday only. There is no set plan on how this will be taught. We will meet at Hiawassee Outfitters at 10:30 am. We will introduce ourselves, sign waivers, head up river and simply enjoy the day covering a variety of topics. You simply need to bring the normal paddle gear. We teach on and in the water. Every paddler should have a throw rope.
Simply bring them Doug. That is not an issue. There is no official agenda so to speak. We will gather at 10:30 to fill out waivers etc then head upstream.
Great, Thanks!
David, do we meet at the Hiwassee Outfitters?
We do!
If we can make it, I would bring my son and daughter as well..but there was no way to register all 3. Can you post or direct me to a weekend agenda and schedule? Thanks
