About this event:
We will meet at the Kedron Aquatic Center in Peachtree City from 5 pm to 7 pm two Sundays a month (most months). Please check the calendar carefully since we do not meet every week.
Mark your calendars for the following Demo nights!
Feb 21st – Outside World
March 6th – Nantahala Outdoor Center
Please arrive at the facility early (about 4:30 pm) to fill out paperwork and be ready to go at 5 pm when the pool becomes available for our use. Your friendly neighborhood roll practice coordinator, Lisa Haskell, would also like to be able to get in the pool for a practice session!
Please be sure that your boat is clean so that we don’t mess up the pool. There is no hose available at the pool so you will need to clean your boat before you arrive.
The details will be the same as last year. The cost per session will be $6 for GCA members and $10 for non-members. You will also need ACA insurance which is an additional $5 unless you are an ACA member. To get credit for ACA membership you will need to have your ACA number available for me to put on the waiver form.
This is a very nice, large facility. It is large enough to bring your canoe or sea kayak to roll and still leave plenty of room for other people. The water and facility are heated but aren’t hot in my opinion. Some people roll in just a rash guard but I am usually too cool that way. If you get cold easily you might want to bring a couple of layers with you the first time until you have an opportunity to see how the temperature works for you. There are nice changing rooms with showers for after roll practice.
Many times a group of us will go to Mellow Mushroom afterwards for dinner. You are all welcome to join us.
If you have any questions please contact Lisa Haskell at lshkayaker@gmail.com
I went to my first individual rolling class today. I’ve got a ways to go before I will be ready for roll practice at Peachtree City. Maybe I’ll be ready after the new year.
Peachtree City is a good place to learn to roll. I’ll be there, I’m an ACA Instructor and can teach rolling. We usually have a couple instructors at this one.
As to videos to look at in advance, check out the C-to-C and Sweep rolls here, these are excellent examples.

Jim,
Do you recommend that I take a formal class up at The Outside World for $50 before I try to roll on my own at Peachtree City?
Never mind. I already decided I should go to the formal instruction at Outside World in Dawsonville before I come to Peachtree City.
So far, we haven’t had to limit how many people can come. Peachtree City has never felt crowded to me, it is a large pool with plenty of room.
Because it is a bubble pool, we cannot leave the doors open for long. So please arrive at least 20 minutes early to complete waivers, then we can bring the boats in all at once prompty at 5pm.
Is it okay to take the class multiple times? Is there a limit on how many times you can take it?
Hi Mary Margaret,
This isn’t a formal class, although there are usually instructors there that can help you get started.
There’s no limit, come as often as you want. Many people will come every session (about every two weeks).
I don’t know how to roll, except what I have seen on videos. Will somebody be able to show me the strokes?
I know that the kayak store in Dawsonville, GA teaches rolling in their indoor swimming pool for $50/hr. Do you recommend I go to one of those lessons because it is a formal class before I go to this rolling practice in Peachtree City?
Do these classes fill up quickly?
Do I need to make a decision soon as to whether or not I am going?
There’s plenty of room, we won’t fill up.
