Time to place on your calendar October 22, 9:00 AM, to help clean up the Etowah and Chestatee rivers near Dahlonega.

Over the last five years participation by many members of GCA has made this Rivers Alive event sponsored by the Lumpkin Coalition much fun and a great success.  You are invited to do so once again – on river or as part of a land based team.

Meet at the Hilyer residence at Chuck Shoals on the Etowah at 9:00 AM for coffee, juice, and bagels while we organize into river and land crews.  After cleanup, return for beverage and burger, and a free Rivers Alive T-shirt (you may want to bring a snack for lunch).

We will cover on river as much of the Etowah from Highway 52 to Highway 136 and as much of the Chestatee from Copper Mine to Highway 400 as the number of paddlers and interest allow.  Land crews will clean around the bridges and access points.

If you are willing to lead a section of either river, please let me know (706 429 6011).

GCA has some interesting trips for this day, but if you aren’t going on those, consider coming to Dahlonega for a satisfying day with great benefit to these two rivers.

If you know you are coming, please let me know.  But if you awaken on October 22 and for the first time feel the urge to join us, come on (directions below).  The rivers of Lumpkin County will welcome you.

3865 Dawsonville Hwy., Dahlonega.

When you get to “3865” park along road and walk down driveway.

From Atlanta:  Up 400.  At about mile 38 above 285 you come to North Georgia Premium Outlets on left.   Continue on 400 about 3.5 miles to third red light (not counting the light at the Outlets) – big signs for Highway 136 – take left.  Go 6 miles to stop sign at Highway 9 – take right.   Go about 7 miles on Highway 9 and look out for sign on right side of road – “3865”.   If you cross the Etowah River bridge, turn around and come back about one tenth mile to second driveway on left.
