We have received great news from the SELC (Southern Environmental Law Center). Many of you spoke up for the Okefenokee Swamp, and your voice has been heard.

After six years of pressure from local partners, SELC, and advocates like you, a major threat to the Okefenokee Swamp has been defeated.

Twin Pines Minerals LLC is selling its property on Trail Ridge — halting its push to mine on the doorstep of one of the world’s most important wetlands. This deal, made possible by the incredible work of The Conservation Fund, marks a major win for the Okefenokee.

Thanks to your support, this ancient and irreplaceable landscape — home to 400-year-old cypress trees, rare indigo snakes, bobcats, and more than 15,000 alligators — is safe from this proposed mine.

You and over 250,000 people raised their voices for the swamp. And together, we proved that when citizens, advocates, and conservationists unite, we can achieve the extraordinary.

There is still work ahead to protect the Okefenokee. This mine will not move forward, but future threats may arise as long as thousands of acres of Trail Ridge remain unprotected.

SELC, GCA and others have been protecting the Okefenokee for decades and we will not stop now, just as we will continue to fight across the South wherever other public lands and wild places still face serious threats.

Thank you so much for your support and communicating with officials to keep up the pressure that produced this result. Stay tuned for future ways that you can influence good environmental outcomes.
