NOC has said they would be happy to request a meeting with the NPS about getting the slalom gates back up and functioning. However, they think it would be a good idea to have a solid group of community people showing the NPS that it is as big a deal as they think it is. If you are at all interested in having slalom gates at the Metro Hooch again for training and practice, please let George Virgo at NOC Atlanta know. The NPS was somewhat open to the idea of the slalom gates, they were just afraid of committing time and money to make it happen if interested is limited.
NOC is offering a 10% discount to any club member for any of their currently running courses, this includes the Wilderness First Aid courses in Atlanta. If you have a group of 12 or more interested in a WFA class they can go to you at a convenient time for your group and with permission can also use the Chattahoochee Rec Area. If you let them know more specifically what you are interested in they can provide further information and options. You can use Rachel Dean as a point of contact so that she can apply optimum discounts on their currently running courses. She is also happy to discuss their away courses and custom courses for both Wilderness Medicine and the Paddling School with anyone who is interested. Her phone number is (828) 488-7286.
