Etowah (Q-R-S) Allatoona Dam - Cartersville

The initial three miles have virtually no current when the Allatoona dam is not releasing. To check the generation schedule, call 706-334-7213.

There is a 12' tall dam with a steep slope that must be portaged on river left. The dam would be hard to miss. It creates a very distinct horizon line across the river. The falling water creates a roar that is unmistakable.

Etowah Dam Portage

The portage on river left is easy. Just don't miss it!

Cartersville Dam

After this dam, the river does show signs of a mild current with occasional Indian fishing weirs. They don't present any navigation challenges and are suitable for all paddlers.

The property owner where we took out is making a bid to be named "Etowah River Access Saint". He has built a pavilion, boat ramp, gravel road, and two swings. Totally amazing that he is so gracious to share this with everyone. If you see trash on his property, please remove it.

Put In / Take Out Location:

Put in: N34.145936, W-84.849575 - From I75 North, Take the Red Top Mountain Exit. Turn Left (West) and go to Hwy 41. Turn Right (North) and drive 1.1 miles. Turn right on Allatoona Dam Road. The road will dead end into a park.

Take out: N34.162667, W-84.740966 - This is private property, please help keep relations with the land owner positive.
